Headaches and Migraines

Headaches and migraines present themselves with varying signs and symptoms, but they typically have a very narrow set of underlying causes. These include hormonal imbalances, biomechanical dysfunctions, neurological factors, and chemical influences (ie food sensitivities).

Hormonally-caused headaches are usually related to the estrogen cycle, and would be treated by the use of botanical or pharmacological hormone therapy. This may require concurrent care with the patient's primary care physician or OB/GYN.

The three most common causes for biomechanically-related headaches are cervical dysfunction, TMJ Disorder, and disorders involving the shoulder blades and/or ribs. The cause will affect the presenting symptoms. This is where chiropractic treatment really shines!

Neurologically/organically-caused headaches can be diagnosed by a chiropractor via MRI/MRA, but will be treated elsewhere by referral to an appropriate physician.

Chemically-induced headaches can be caused by OTC medications, prescribed medications, controlled substances, and nutritional or environmental allergies and sensitivities. These headaches can be diagnosed by a chiropractor, and Dr. Arsenault can treat many of them without referral to a specialist.
